Bills QB Josh Allen remains the favourite to win NFL Regular Season MVP

The beginning of the NFL season is only days away, with a Week One matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams set to kick-off the campaign.

As of Thursday, on PlayNow.com, the Bills were favoured by 2.5 points on the road against the Rams in the season opener on Sept. 8. The line opened with the Bills favoured by a single point.

Led by quarterback Josh Allen, the Bills are the current favourites to win the Super Bowl, with odds of 7.00 on PlayNow.com. Buffalo has been knocking on the door as a contender in the AFC for a few years now but had fallen short of getting to the Super Bowl in each of the last two years following playoff losses to Kansas City.

Buffalo’s offence should once again impress, especially with Allen behind centre. Stefon Diggs will likely remain the favourite target in the pass game for Allen, while the expectation is that third-year wideout Gabriel Davis will take another step toward becoming a big-time playmaker.

The Bills are currently attracting the largest share of bets to win the Super Bowl at 8.3 per cent, as well as the highest share of money wagered to win it all, at 12.8 per cent.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the second-best odds to win the Super Bowl, at 8.50 on PlayNow.com, followed by Kansas City (11.00), L.A. Rams (12.00), and Green Bay (13.00).

PlayNow Sports players are also expecting big things from the Los Angeles Chargers this season.

The Chargers currently have odds of 15.00 at PlayNow.com to win the Super Bowl and are attracting 6.4 per cent of bets and 9.5 per cent of money wagered.

The play of quarterback Justin Herbert is one of the reasons why players seem bullish on the Chargers.

Herbert enters his third season in the league. He set career highs for several categories last year, including pass attempts, pass completions, pass yards, and pass touchdowns.

He threw for 5,014 yards last season, as well as 38 touchdowns to 15 interceptions. After a breakout sophomore season in 2021-22, players appear to believe even greater things are in store this season for Herbert and the Chargers.

Josh Allen overtakes Justin Herbert as most popular MVP bet

When NFL training camps opened in July, Justin Herbert was the most popular bet to win NFL MVP for the 2022 regular season.

Things have changed considerably since then.

Lamar Jackson enjoyed a brief stay atop the list of most bet-on players to win MVP, but Josh Allen of the Bills has taken over as preseason has progressed.

With odds of 8.00 on PlayNow.com to win NFL MVP, Allen has attracted 10 per cent of bets and 35 per cent of money wagered to win the award. The largest share of bets for this market remains on Herbert to win MVP, at just over 12 per cent, but by far the largest share of money wagered is on Allen in Buffalo.

Seahawks Over/Under Wins set at 5.5

The days of the Seattle Seahawks contending in the NFC West appear to be on hold for now.

Russell Wilson, the team’s franchise quarterback for 10 seasons, was traded to Denver during this past offseason. Seattle will go into the 2022 campaign with Geno Smith and Drew Lock at quarterback.

Hence the low external expectations for the Seahawks this season. The Over/Under on Seattle Regular Season Wins is set at 5.5, with odds of 1.95 on the Under.

So far, 64 per cent of bets are on the Seahawks Under 5.5 Wins, but just 42 per cent of money wagered.

Russell Wilson will not have to wait very long to make his return to Seattle. The Seahawks host Wilson and the Broncos for Monday Night Football on Sept. 12 to close out Week One.

As of Thursday, Seattle was a 6.5-point home underdog.
