Bettors who wagered on Pettersson to capture the Calder Trophy to receive early payout!
In our minds, there is no debate about who should win the Calder Memorial Trophy.
Last month, the NHL named its three finalists for the award, however, PlayNow.com has already declared Vancouver Canucks phenom Elias Pettersson the winner following his impressive rookie season.
The NHL also named St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington and Buffalo Sabres defenceman Rasmus Dahlin as Calder Trophy finalists. The league will announce the recipient for the award in June.
Binnington, 25, went from a mid-season AHL call-up to the Blues’ starting goalie with an impressive 24-5-1 record and .927 save percentage, helping St. Louis go from worst in the NHL’s standings to a playoff spot in 32 games worth of work during the regular season. His play in the back half of the season prompted plenty of debate in the hockey world about who – Binnington or Pettersson – should win the Calder Trophy.
Selected fifth overall in the 2017 Entry Draft, Pettersson started the season with the Canucks and quickly took hockey fans in Vancouver and the NHL by storm with 15 points in his first nine games. He finished his rookie year with 28 goals and 66 points in 71 games. He also had seven game-winning goals. To celebrate such a successful season, PlayNow.com paid out early and graded all bets on Pettersson to lift the Calder Trophy as a win.
“The NHL will announce the official winner of the Calder in June, but we don’t see the need to wait,” said PlayNow Sportsbook Manager Greg Paolini.
“Petey was by far and away the best rookie this season. We’re confident the NHL will see it that way as well, so this was an easy decision to payout early and thank our customers for their business and continued support.”
The odds on Pettersson to win the Calder Trophy started at 8.00 at PlayNow.com, making him the pre-season favourite, but the odds quickly shifted to 4.00 following his magnificent start to the season.
Pettersson was the popular pick among PlayNow.com players, with 55.7 per cent of total bets and 77 per cent of the total stake on Pettersson to win the Calder Trophy. There was a total of 105 winning bets on Pettersson to claim the Calder Trophy.
Dahlin, the first overall pick in 2018, had odds of 11.00 to win the Calder Trophy. He garnered 14.75 per cent of total bets – a distant second compared to his fellow countryman Pettersson.
Binnington was not a betting option for Rookie of the Year when the season began.
