College Football Championship Odds (As of December 5)
Ohio State: 2.60
Conference championships and playoff places are on the line this weekend, which means another round of scintillating college football action is coming our way.
The biggest match-up of the weekend is for the SEC Championship between the LSU Tigers and the Georgia Bulldogs. This match has major playoff implications for both teams. For Georgia, a win will likely see them go up in the rankings to the third position, dependant on Ohio State and Clemson winning their games. For LSU, a loss would see them likely drop to fourth, barely making it into the playoffs.
LSU has outright odds of 4.80 at PlayNow.com to win the College Football Championship, while Georgia has odds of 13.00. Bettors are bullish on LSU winning the title, with over 35 per cent of the money wagered on the outright market currently on the Tigers.
This is a true battle of strengths as LSU's dynamic offence takes on Georgia's strong defence. The Tigers enter this game without a blemish to their record, while the Bulldogs come in with a single loss against South Carolina. However, none of that will matter to the victor on Saturday.
LSU holds a 17-13-1 edge over Georgia, including a slight 6-5 advantage when meeting as ranked teams and a 2-1 advantage in the SEC Championship game.
LSU quarterback Joe Burrow enters Saturday's game as the national leader in pass completion rate at 78.3 per cent, and second in passing yards with 4,366. Burrow has thrown 44 touchdown passes, and has an out-of-this-world quarterback rating of 203.0. Bettors are bullish on Burrow winning the Heisman – over 50 per cent of the money wagered on the Heisman market is on him.
He'll be going up against a formidable Georgia pass defence that has kept all its opponents under 17 points throughout the season. The Bulldogs have only surrendered 11 passing touchdowns in 2019, and have grabbed six interceptions all season. They'll likely need one or two takeaways to win on Saturday.
The Tigers' defence is also worth talking about.
They have managed to come in clutch with timely interceptions against each of their three toughest opponents in Florida, Auburn, and Alabama this season.
Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm has thrown 12 touchdowns and zero interceptions since that disastrous October 12 loss to South Carolina, when he threw three interceptions. Although he might not match Burrow’s high-volume passing, he can make up for it with a mistake-free outing to give Georgia a chance to win.
Georgia has odds of 3.40 at PlayNow.com to win the game, while LSU has odds of 1.32.
The LSU-Georgia game is not the only one for college football fans to enjoy.
The Oklahoma Sooners take on the Baylor Bears in the Big 12 Championship game. Although both teams are not ranked in the top four, this game still has major playoff implications, as well as Heisman Trophy implications for Sooners quarterback Jalen Hurts. Both teams have 11-1 records and a win for either could firmly place them in the playoff conversation.
Hurts is hot-off-the-heels of an amazing performance against Oklahoma State. Hurts threw for a TD, rushed for one and caught another in the Sooners' win. He also threw for 163 yards and rushed for 63 more. Hurts has odds of 28.00 to win the Heisman, and over 15 per cent of the money wagered is on Hurts to claim the recognition.
Another interesting game coming up this weekend is Utah vs. Oregon for the Pac-12 Championship. The Utah Utes are currently ranked fifth and are knocking on the door for the college football playoffs. A win for Utah would firmly place them in the top four conversation. As of Thursday, Utah had odds of 22.00 to win the College Football Champion.
