The NBA regular season is well underway and we have already seen intriguing matchups between the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
After losing in the 2019 Eastern Conference finals, the Bucks made several additions to their roster. They signed Robin Lopez at centre and re-signed All-Star Khris Middleton for another five years. Lopez and Middleton will be playing alongside defending regular-season MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, making the trio a nightmare for any defence in the league. As of Tuesday, Antetokounmpo had the best odds in the MVP race for this season – 3.70 at PlayNow.com.
The Bucks currently have the best odds to win the Eastern Conference – 2.50 at PlayNow.com, with more than 12 per cent of the money wagered on the Bucks winning the conference.
The defending NBA Champion Toronto Raptors started off their title defence by defeating the New Orleans Pelicans at home. Analysts have had their doubts about the Raptors being title contenders after the departure of Kawhi Leonard, however, they have managed to start off their season by winning three of their first four games.
Despite the negative sentiments around the Raptors, bettors remain bullish, with more than 35 per cent of the money wagered on the Eastern Conference market on the Raptors winning. They currently have odds of 13.00 at PlayNow.Com.
One potential title contender is the Philadelphia 76ers. After losing in the conference semi-final to the Raptors last spring, the 76ers made significant moves during the off-season. They re-signed Ben Simmons for a five-year extension and added Tobias Harris and Al Horford to their roster.
These additions, coupled with a healthy Joel Embiid, who has the eighth-best MVP odds, have left bettors feeling confident. As of Tuesday, over 34 per cent of the money wagered on the Eastern Conference market was on the 76ers.
The 76ers have the second-best odds to win the Eastern Conference – 3.25 at PlayNow.com.
Another team that could take the spotlight is the Boston Celtics. The Celtics had a busy off-season too, adding Hornets star Kemba Walker in a sign-and-trade deal. Walker averaged a career-high 25.6 points and 5.9 assists for the Hornets last season while earning his third straight All-Star selection.
The Celtics also have a young core compromising of All-Star Skills Challenge winner Jayson Tatum and NBA All-Rookie Second Team player Jaylen Brown. Tatum currently has the fourth-best odds in the Most Improved Player category at PlayNow.com
The Celtics had, as of Tuesday morning, the third-best odds to win the Eastern Conference, with odds of 7.25 at PlayNow.com.
Although the Brooklyn Nets have not had the best start to the season, losing three of their first four games, some bettors still believe they have what it takes to win the Eastern Conference. More than seven per cent of the money wagered on the Eastern Conference market is on the Nets.
During the off-season, the Nets traded for an injured Kevin Durant and signed Kyrie Irving, which made them a force to reckon with in the East. However, they have not lived up to this status over the first few games of this season.
The Nets had, as of Tuesday morning, the fourth-best odds – 11.00 at PlayNow.com.
