Friendship Leads to EXTRA Winnings

Two Winnipeg friends now have many EXTRA reasons to celebrate: Dave P. and Renee V. just shared a $250,000 lottery prize!

“We’re firefighters and we met years ago while prepping for the World Police & Firefighter Games,” explained Dave. “We’re not on the same shift, but through that we became friends, and we’ve been playing Lotto Max together on PlayNow for years now.”

“We have our subscription and it’s great. Very easy, it tells me when we won something, and I let her know.”

Dave laughed when asked about the email. “This time I noticed that the email this time was from a different PlayNow email address. When I opened it, it said we had won more than $1,001 and told me what to do next. I checked the PlayNow account to find out how much I actually won.”

“I saw there was a free play…and then I saw it was actually a free play AND $250,000!”

When Dave shared the good news with Renee, she did not believe him. “He’s pranked me before about a few things,” she chuckled. “But after a while I could tell he was serious. This was real!”

In total, the ticket the two co-workers shared netted $250,005. They won the top EXTRA prize of $250,000 by matching all 7 digits of the EXTRA number (1687957) on the February 14, 2025, draw, plus an additional $5 for a Lotto Max free play.

EXTRA can be added to any host game ticket, including Lotto Max, for just $1.

“I have been making sure to remind her that she didn’t even want to play EXTRA. But I like to play it; it’s only a dollar,” Dave exclaimed while the two picked up their winnings. Looking over at their ‘big cheque’ in the winners lounge, Renee said, “Yes, you’re right. Thanks for making us play EXTRA!”

The co-workers are each making plans for their winnings, including plans to upgrade trips they already had planned. heading to hot and cold travel destinations respectively. Renee decided to upgrade her seats on a previously booked flight to Mexico, and is considering new furniture for her living room. Dave is going to bump up a trip to Antarctica, travelling several years sooner than he ever dared hope. Both intend to add to their retirement savings, and both plan to continue playing the lottery.
