Richard H was checking his email Monday morning, and noticed he had won a lottery prize on PlayNow.

PlayNow winners receive a courtesy email notification if they win a prize, so receiving email wasn’t unusual, but this email spoke about a larger prize and he wondered initially whether it was real.

He logged into his PlayNow account, and when the Ile-des-Chênes resident saw the prize displayed on the screen, he could not believe it: he had won $1,000,000.

“My first thought was, ‘Wow, that number has a lot of zeroes!’” he explained. “And then I started to wonder what we might do next.”

When sharing the news with his wife, he asked her, “What’s one thing you would really like?”

Richard was smiling while asking the question because of the win, but also because that question was an inside joke between the couple. When asked that question, his wife had always joked and responded that she would really like a million dollars.

“Now that actually happened, it is just unbelievable,” Richard shared.

Richard’s winning ticket for the April 12 Lotto 6/49 draw was a free play he had won on the previous draw. His free play selection exactly matched the gold ball draw number, 30328941-01. A white ball was drawn that day, winning him the $1,000,000 prize.

Having played Lotto 6/49 for 30 years, Richard has a long history of playing the game, and he and his family have “about a million different plans” for the winnings

He is considering moving to a new home, but intends to meet with a financial planner to discuss options before making any big decisions.
